The car I am restoring is a 1972 911 T. The car was bought about a year ago after sitting for about 8 years. I have done alot of work on it, but it has not been a fast process.

This is how the 911T was found after sitting for eight years:

After getting the car home, I started to clean in it up, I really thought I would clean the car up, and but new oil in it and be driving. Boy little did I know!

The car cleaned up good, but it also had some areas that need some help. The fuel tank support panel the 2 battery boxes where really rusted. It seems that over the 8 years of setting there some rodents made a home there. They packed in leaves and sticks, and acorn. After about four hours of cleaning I found some metal problems.

I then drained out the engine to find some water in the oil. So I guickly learned I will not be changing the oil and running around. After look at the engine I found a broken rocker arm. Well about three hours later I had the engine out. Only to learn the years of setting, had ruined the engine. So if anyone has a engine for sale let me know.

Here's some pictures of the stripdown:

Bringing it back to bare metal:

I had decided to go ahead a strip the paint down , I learned a lot there also, It looks like the rear right wing was wrecked. I stripped the car with a chemical stripper, it took me about two days This took about three one gallons cans of stripper . and a lot of little chemical burns. The front fuel tank support and suspension pan were bad . I found a replacement part, and So hand the metal cut out and the new parts wielded in. After looking a t Nick Moss 's 1970 E , I found the work done for me was not done correct. The place I took it to only tacked the piece in and did not complete the weld all the way around. So I decided I needed to learn how to weld, and fix this and all the rest of the rust problems myself. After looking at Nick 's restoration job on the rear shelf, and the seat pans, I went and looked at my rear shelf and pans to learn I will be working on them next.

Thanks Derek, we look forward to seeing more pictures as the restoration progresses.

Update 12th Mar 04

I bought a 73 t targa doner car which provides for many of my requirements, I am going to get the rear seat pans and the rear deck. The engine was also rebuilt on the targa so it will be going in the coupe, this will be far more cost effective than rebuilding the cars original engine which has stood for 8 years.

The car goes to paint on th 1st of April, wow, I can't wait.

I ordered a R.S. carpet kit for the car and I am going to delete the rear seats
